Bringing equality to the table
Everyone is welcome to dine at our table
We’re lucky enough to work with over 4,000 Nandocas (that’s how we say staff), from all different abilities, ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, religions and sexual orientations, and every day we welcome thousands of PERi-PERi fans into our restaurants. So, we’re passionate about creating an environment where our Nandocas and customers feel safe and can be their whole, brilliant selves!
Diversity & Inclusion Committee
As part of our ongoing commitment to Diversity and Inclusion, in 2020 our Diversity and Inclusion Committee was formed.
The committee is made up of a Council and two Working Groups; The LGBTIQA+ Working Group and The Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. These teams include people with lived experience and allies, who drive our Diversity and Inclusion strategy, and the activities and programs to bring that strategy to life.
Socially inclusive recruitment
In South Africa, where unemployment is high, our South African family is working hard to make a difference. Harambee is a program that recruits young unemployed South Africans, develops them and gives them the skills to get ready to enter the workplace. Since 2012, more than 3,000 Harambee graduates have been given jobs at Nando’s South Africa! That’s epic!
We’re now working on a similar program with local partners to provide young Australians with more pathways to employment.
Equality Opportunity Employer
We’re proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and seek to ensure that people are employed, trained and promoted fairly. This means also allowing our Nandocas to wear a uniform that aligns with their gender identity or religion.
Our dedication to equality is why we’ve participated in the Pride in Diversity ‘Australian Workplace Equality Index’ since 2017 – the national benchmark on LGBTIQA+ workplace inclusion.
